Instructions for Authors
Types of papers
Original papers, Brief communications, Review articles and Mini-Reviews are considered.
Original papers
Original papers should provide new information, and should not exceed twelve printed pages. (One printed page is approximately equivalent to three typewritten pages.)
Brief communications
Brief communications must not exceed ten typewritten pages, including tables and figures, and must not be divided into sections. They do, however, need an Abstract. The last paragraph should be a concluding statement.
Review articles
Review articles are typically by invitation only. Please send a pre-inquiry to the Editors, in case you would like to submit an unsolicited review.
Review articles should contain between 54,000 and a maximum of 72,000 characters.
Mini-Reviews may contain a maximum of 20,000 characters (including a maximum of 30-40 references).
HLA-disease association papers
HLA-disease association papers will only be considered if they describe completely new associations or contribute significantly to the understanding of the biochemical basis of known associations.
Genes and disease association papers
Genes and disease association papers must fit in the criteria as set out by Manly (2005) Reliability of statistical associations between genes and disease. Immunogenetics 57: 549-558.
Hypotheses
These contributions are short communications addressing timely topics involving novel ideas, insights, or hypotheses that are important for the scientific community. A hypothesis should be written in such a way that most scholars will easily be able to understand the premise put forward.
Editorial Procedure
Please note that a manuscript rejected by one editor cannot be submitted to another.
Please note as well that reviewers are selected carefully and invited by the journal's editors, on the basis of these referees' extensive experience and proven expertise in their areas of research. Unsolicited requests to review articles for the journal will not be considered.
Manuscript Submission
Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.
Permissions
Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.
Online Submission
Please follow the hyperlink “Submit manuscript” on the right and upload all of your manuscript files following the instructions given on the screen.
Please ensure you provide all relevant editable source files. Failing to submit these source files might cause unnecessary delays in the review and production process.
