About the Journal
Endoscopic Ultrasound, an official journal of International Society of Endoscopic Ultrasound and endorsed by Euro-EUS Scientific Committee, Asia-Pacific EUS Task Force and Latin American Chapter of EUS, is a peer-reviewed online journal with Bi-monthly print on demand compilation of issues published. The journal’s full text is available online at http://www.eusjournal.com. The journal allows free access (Open Access) to its contents and permits authors to self-archive final accepted version of the articles on any OAI-compliant institutional / subject-based repository. The journal does not charge for submission, processing or publication of manuscripts and even for color reproduction of photographs.
Scope of the journal
The journal is named Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), which is not only the name of a new technique, but over the past decades this field has emerged as a discipline in its own right. This rapidly expanding medical field has revolutionized the detection and treatment to lesions inside and outside the natural lumens or tracts. With its ability to obtain a histological and even molecular diagnosis, EUS has not only increased the accuracy of the diagnosis for malignancies, but also played an important role in the era of precision medicine. More recently EUS guided interventional techniques have become more promising and are replacing more and more conventional surgical procedures. The journal named after this field covers all aspects of gastrointestinal EUS, endobronchial ultrasound, laparoscopic and robotic ultrasound, from medical instrument engineering, basic research to clinical studies and applications. As the official journal of Euro-EUS scientific committee, it is not only filling a long standing gap in the field of medical science, but also helping to create a stimulating new frontier on applications of EUS in the EUS related promising minimally invasive medicine and precision medicine. Since EUS is an interdisciplinary science, this field, so as the journal serve not only the gastroenterologists, endoscopist, surgeons and pulmonologists, but also the endocrinologists, urologists, gynecologists, anesthetists, pediatrists, pathologists and biomedical engineers. Endoscopic Ultrasound is an open-access journal, with free access to each visitor. Articles with clinical interest and implications will be given preference and it will provide authors with a means in which to effectively communicate their ideas and research to a practicing audience.
The Editorial Process
All journal manuscripts should be written in a clear, concise, direct style so that they are intelligible to the professional reader who is not a specialist in the particular field. Where contributions are judged as acceptable for publication, the Editor and the Publisher reserve the right to modify manuscripts to eliminate ambiguity and repetition and improve communication between author and reader. If extensive alterations are required, the manuscript will be returned to the author for revision.
A manuscript will be reviewed for possible publication with the understanding that it is being submitted to Endoscopic Ultrasound alone at that point in time and has not been published anywhere, simultaneously submitted, or already accepted for publication elsewhere. The journal expects that authors would authorize one of them to correspond with the Journal for all matters related to the manuscript. All manuscripts received are duly acknowledged. On submission, editors review all submitted manuscripts initially for suitability for formal review. Manuscripts with insufficient originality, serious scientific or technical flaws, or lack of a significant message are rejected before proceeding for formal peer-review. Manuscripts that are unlikely to be of interest to the Endoscopic Ultrasound readers are also liable to be rejected at this stage itself.
Manuscripts that are found suitable for publication in Endoscopic Ultrasound are sent to two or more expert reviewers. During submission, the contributor is requested to provide names of two or three qualified reviewers who have had experience in the subject of the submitted manuscript, but this is not mandatory. The reviewers should not be affiliated with the same institutes as the contributor/s. However, the selection of these reviewers is at the sole discretion of the editor. The journal follows a double-blind review process, wherein the reviewers and authors are unaware of each other’s identity. Every manuscript is also assigned to a member of the editorial team, who based on the comments from the reviewers takes a final decision on the manuscript. The Editor-in-Chief’s decision is final. If, however, authors dispute a decision and can document good reasons why a manuscript should be reconsidered, a rebuttal process exists. In the first place, authors should write to the Editor-in-Chief. The comments and suggestions (acceptance/ rejection/ amendments in manuscript) received from reviewers are conveyed to the corresponding author. If required, the author is requested to provide a point by point response to reviewers’ comments and submit a revised version of the manuscript. This process is repeated till reviewers and editors are satisfied with the manuscript.
Manuscripts accepted for publication are copy edited for grammar, punctuation, print style, and format. Page proofs are sent to the corresponding author. The corresponding author is expected to return the corrected proofs within three days. It may not be possible to incorporate corrections received after that period. The whole process of submission of the manuscript to final decision and sending and receiving proofs is completed online. To achieve faster and greater dissemination of knowledge and information, the journal publishes articles online as ‘Ahead of Print’ immediately on acceptance.
