Guidelines for Authors of Geochemistry International
Geochemistry International publishes original, as yet unpublished papers describing results of theoretical and experimental research in all fields of geochemistry, space chemistry, and ecology, including thermodynamics of natural processes, ocean geochemistry, and geochemistry of organic matter.
Manuscripts should be e-mailed to geokhimiya@geokhi.ru. A hardcopy of the manuscript and other correspondence addressed to the editorial board should be sent by regular mail to the following address: Zhurnal Geokhimiya, ul. Kosygina 19, Moscow, 119991 Russia. Please do not send registered or certified mail.
The journal does not accept introductory articles, reviews of scientific activity, book reviews, or articles devoted to the history of science. Every manuscript is subjected to anonymous peer review.
Rejection of a manuscript is final and is not subject to debate.
A hardcopy of the manuscript should be submitted together with its identical electronic version.
Two copies of the copyright transfer agreement must be signed by all authors and submitted together with the manuscript; the agreement can be downloaded from the publisher’s web site. It is desirable to specify the contact information of the corresponding author.
MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION
Two copies of the manuscript should be printed using 12-point font with 1.5 line spacing on one side of A4 (297 210 mm) white paper. The total length of a manuscript, including text, list of references, tables, figures, and figure captions, should not exceed 25 typewritten pages; one page contains 29–30 lines. Please use the following margins: left, 25 mm; right, 20 mm; top, 20 mm; and bottom, 30 mm. All pages should be numbered sequentially. Each table, list of references, figure captions, and figures should be printed on separate pages. Figures should have a handwritten note on their front face, including the number of the figure, the name of the first author, and the journal title (Geochem. Int.). The place of first mention of figures and tables in the text is marked in the left margin by pencil or pen.
The text of the manuscript should be prepared in Microsoft Word.
Figures should be submitted in JPEG format.
Each file (text, tables, list of references, figure captions, and figures) should be signed with the first authors’ name, the number of table or figure, and the journal title (Geochem. Int.). Figures consisting of several parts (a, b, c, etc.) should be in one file.
A sample title page of an article is given below:

This information is followed by the abstract. It begins with the description of new findings. Then, keywords are listed in the following format: Keywords: volatility, etc.
It is recommended to structure the manuscript using sections with standard headings: INTRODUCTION, THEORY, EXPERIMENTAL, RESULTS AND DISCUSSION, CONCLUSIONS, and REFERENCES. Second-level subheadings should be italicized. Section headings and second-level subheadings should be centered on a separate line. Third-level subheadings should be placed at the beginning of a line and should be in boldface.
The International System of Units (SI) should be used for physical quantities. The names of chemical substances and chemical terminology should comply with IUPAC recommendations.
Do not use a period after the title of the manuscript, section headings, first-level subheadings, table captions, and units of measure (s (second), g (gram), min (minute), day, deg (degree), atm (atmosphere), etc.).
Use a period after footnotes (including footnotes in tables), notes for tables, figure captions, abstract, and abbreviations. Use a period, not a comma, for decimals (0.01).
Use an en dash without spaces for systems, alloys, phase boundaries, dependences, or ranges: Jurassic−Cretaceous; 150−170C. Use the following format for ranges in negative numbers: −150 to−170C.
All abbreviations be should be explained on first mention, except for commonly used ones (etc., i.e.). Newly introduced or rarely used terms or phrases are also subject to explanation on first mention.
A concise, clear, and accurate writing style is recommended.
Symbols of chemical elements should be typed in regular font with appropriate placement of super- and subscripts. Designations of minerals should be written in italics, e.g., Ol, olivine. Temperature in degrees Celsius should be denoted by italic t, C; Temperature in kelvins should be denotedT, K; pressure should be denoted P or p. Time is t, and age is T (plain letters).
Formulas. Use the multiplication sign () only when there is a numeral to its right: 2 10 −3 . In other cases, is omitted: 2m, 4πn.
In scalar products and chemical formulas, use a dot: CuSO 4 . 5H 2 O.
Formulas and chemical reactions should be numbered in parentheses near the right margin. Use parentheses when citing an equation or formula in the text: (1)−(3).
For complex units of measure, it is possible to use both negative degrees and parentheses: Jmol −1 K −1 , J (mol K) −1 , or J/(mol K). The authors should use units of measure consistently throughout the manuscript. In numerical ranges, the unit is given only for the last number (18−20 J/mol), except for angular degrees (50−60). When physical quantities are written together with their units of measure, a comma should be used throughout the text (E, kJ/mol), including figure captions and labels of axes; units of measure for arguments of logarithmic functions are given in brackets without a comma: logτ [min].
Formulas and symbols should be used consistently throughout the manuscript.
Tables. Each table in the paper version is printed on a separate page.
The column headings in tables should be concise and comparable in size to each other. Additional explanations should be given in the table caption, footnotes, or notes. Columns should be read from top to bottom.
If a table is continued from the previous page, it should have a heading: e.g., Table 1 (Contd.).
Footnotes and notes with asterisks for the tables are written in regular font, and a period is used at the end.
Figures and maps. Diagrams and figures are published only as sharp black-and-white images.
Curves, straight lines, and symbols in the figures are numbered in italics without parentheses and used consistently throughout the manuscript. Parts of a figure a, b, etc., should be designated in plain letters and in parentheses.
