HORMONES-INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ENDOCRINOLOGY AND METABOLISM《激素-国际内分泌与代谢杂志》(季刊)。The aim of the International Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism (IJEM) is to increase knowledge, stimulate research in the field of endocrinology, and promote better management of patients with endocrinological disorders. To achieve this goal, the journal publishes original research papers on human, animal and cell culture studies relevant to endocrinology.

Instructions for Authors

General Information

Hormones – International Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism is an international peer reviewed journal. This journal follows a single-blind reviewing procedure.

The English language in submitted articles must be clear, correct, and unambiguous. The use of clear and concise language will help editors and reviewers concentrate on the scientific content of your paper and thus expedite the peer review process. We may reject papers that do not meet these standards.

Accepted manuscripts are copyedited for formal and linguistic style, anyway if you are not a native English, this may be not enough.

Electronic submission is mandatory and substantially reduces editorial processing and shortens reviewing and overall publication times.

Types of Papers

• Review articles

Review Articles are overview papers by recognized authorities, they may be narrative or systematic and should offer exhaustive information on selected topics of general interest. Both Reviews and Short Reviews articles are in general invited by the editors but unsolicited reviews may also be considered. The Abstract must not be structured and the text may be arranged freely. They should not exceed 6000 words (including an abstract of no more than 250 words), not be signed by more than 7 authors, not include more than 4-6 illustrations and references should be limited to 70-80. A maximum of 8 Keywords are requested. Exceptions at the discretion of the Editorial Board.

Review articles may be submitted for the Special Section “Historical Notes”

• Short Review articles

Short Review Articles should not exceed 4.000 words (including an abstract of no more than 250 words), 40 references, 2-4 tables and figures. A maximum of 8 Keywords are requested.

• Original articles

Accounts of research or clinical practice that should be based on original observations rather than confirmatory data. The text should be structured into the following sections: Abstract (and up to 8 keywords, excluding terms already present in the title) Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. Original Articles should not exceed 5.000 words (including a structured abstract of about 250 words), not be signed by more than 7 authors, not include more than 4-6 illustrations and references should be limited to 50.

• Endocrine Epidemiology

Relevant contributions should be based on original observations on the geographical distribution of endocrine and metabolic disorders. They should be structured as original articles and provide detailed information on disease incidence, prevalence, mortality and surveillance, methods, technologies and study design in endocrine epidemiology.

• Rapid Communications

Rapid Communications are reserved to novel findings of high scientific importance that require fast publication. They should not exceed 2.000 words, including a structured Abstract of no more than 150 words. The text must be structured, no more than 1-2 illustrations and up to 15 references are permitted. Keywords are requested.

• Letters to the Editor

Publication of correspondence is at the discretion of the Editorial Board.

Brief letters providing pertinent comments on published articles will be considered and the authors concerned will be given a right to reply. Letters raising problems of general interest will also be considered. They must not exceed 800 words, not include more than 2 illustrations, 3 references and 5 authors. They should not include an Abstract and Keywords.

Letters to the Editor can also be published if they describe unusual case reports or facts of rare clinical experience. They can also be submitted for the special section “History of Endocrinology” and “Notes on Etymology of Medical Terms”.

• Pros and Cons in Endocrinology

A short text with neither an Abstract nor Keywords. It should be between 1,000 and 1,400 words long and include a maximum of 3 references. It should include a critical comment on pros and cons of a diagnostic or therapeutic modality.

• Commentaries

Dealing with subjects of general informative interest, they should not exceed 500 words, not be signed by more than 5 authors, not include more than 1 illustration and references should be limited to 3. Abstract and Keywords are not required.

• Teaching Case Presentations

• Expert Opinion

• Historical Note

• Book Reviews

Book review are reviews of books dealing with endocrinological issues. No abstract needed. Reviews should not exceed 1,000 words and up to 2 illustrations.

• Guidelines, position statements, consensus statements on relevant clinical and therapeutic problems are regularly published. They may be generated by the Hellenic Endocrine Society, but also submitted by experts from well established national or international societies. They should not exceed 6000 words, 4-6 illustrations, references should in principle be limited to 60-70. A not structured Abstract and a maximum of 8 Keywords are required. Exceptions at the discretion of the Editorial Board.

• Clinical Symposia from invited contributors are published occasionally.

Manuscript Submission

Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.

Permissions

Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

Please ensure you provide all relevant editable source files. Failing to submit these source files might cause unnecessary delays in the review and production process.

Important note:

Please check author names and affiliations carefully, as we cannot amend or correct these sections after publication.

Any correction in the authorship after the publication will require an Erratum.

Changes of authorship or in the order of authors are not accepted after acceptance of a manuscript.

Title Page

Please make sure your title page contains the following information.

Title

The title should be concise and informative.

Author information

The name(s) of the author(s)

The affiliation(s) of the author(s), i.e. institution, (department), city, (state), country

A clear indication and an active e-mail address of the corresponding author

If available, the 16-digit ORCID of the author(s)

If address information is provided with the affiliation(s) it will also be published.

For authors that are (temporarily) unaffiliated we will only capture their city and country of residence, not their e-mail address unless specifically requested.

Abstract

Please provide a structured abstract of 150 to 250 words which should be divided into the following sections:

Purpose (stating the main purposes and research question)

Methods

Results

Conclusion

For life science journals only (when applicable)

Trial registration number and date of registration

Trial registration number, date of registration followed by “retrospectively registered”

Keywords

Please provide 4 to 6 keywords which can be used for indexing purposes.

Declarations

All manuscripts must contain the following sections under the heading 'Declarations'.

If any of the sections are not relevant to your manuscript, please include the heading and write 'Not applicable' for that section.

To be used for all articles, including articles with biological applications

Funding (information that explains whether and by whom the research was supported)

Conflicts of interest/Competing interests (include appropriate disclosures)

Availability of data and material (data transparency)

Code availability (software application or custom code)

Authors' contributions (optional: please review the submission guidelines from the journal whether statements are mandatory)

Additional declarations for articles in life science journals that report the results of studies involving humans and/or animals

Ethics approval (include appropriate approvals or waivers)

Consent to participate (include appropriate statements)

Consent for publication (include appropriate statements)

Please see the relevant sections in the submission guidelines for further information as well as various examples of wording. Please revise/customize the sample statements according to your own needs.

Text

Text Formatting

Manuscripts should be submitted in Word.

Use a normal, plain font (e.g., 10-point Times Roman) for text.

Use italics for emphasis.

Use the automatic page numbering function to number the pages.

Do not use field functions.

Use tab stops or other commands for indents, not the space bar.

Use the table function, not spreadsheets, to make tables.

Use the equation editor or MathType for equations.

Save your file in docx format (Word 2007 or higher) or doc format (older Word versions).

Manuscripts with mathematical content can also be submitted in LaTeX.
