NEW ZEALAND JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGY

Instructions for Authors

Please consult the Journal’s style guide on preparing and submitting a manuscript to the New Zealand Journal of Zoology. These instructions should be read in conjunction with the Royal Society Te Aparangi’s Policy and procedures document, which includes guidelines on the responsibilities and requirements placed on authors. This journal is peer-reviewed, and all peer review is single blind.

Prospective contributors should consult recent issues of the journal to ensure that a planned submission is appropriate.

The journal adheres to the requirements of the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) with respect to electronic publication of taxonomic works. The author of a zoological article that includes a nomenclatural act should register publication of the article with ZooBank, the Official Register of the ICZN, once the article has been accepted by the journal and goes into production. Please carefully follow the guide to registering new animal names in ZooBank. Check out Author Services website for more information.

New Zealand Journal of Zoology strongly encourages researchers to consult with the relevant iwi before conducting DNA-based studies on species endemic to New Zealand, and to comply with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Nagoya Protocol.

One author will need to be identified as the corresponding author, with their email address normally displayed in the article PDF and the online article. Authors’ affiliations are the affiliations where the research was conducted. If any of the named co-authors moves affiliation during the peer-review process, the new affiliation can be given as a footnote. Please note that no changes to affiliation can be made after your paper is accepted. Read more on authorship.

Presentation of papers. Research articles and short communications are to be organized in the following sections: Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgements, References.
