SUBJECT MATTER

The IEEE GEOSCIENCE AND REMOTE SENSING LETTERS (hereafter referred to as GRSL) is a quarterly publication for short papers (maximum length 5 pages) addressing new ideas and formative concepts in remote sensing as well as important new and timely results and concepts.

Papers should relate to the theory, concepts, and techniques of science and engineering as applied to sensing the earth, oceans, atmosphere, and space, and the processing, interpretation, and dissemination of this information.

The technical content of papers must be both new and significant. Experimental data must be complete and include sufficient description of experimental apparatus, methods, and relevant experimental conditions. GRSL encourages the incorporation of “extended objects" or “multimedia" such as animations to enhance the shorter papers. As soon as papers are accepted and materials are available at IEEE, they will appear online through the IEEE digital library Xplore. A paper version of each paper will appear in January, April, July, and October.

Authors are required to submit electronically using the website http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/grsl. Instructions for creating new user accounts, if necessary, are available on the login screen. No other manners of submission are being accepted. For questions concerning the process, or for assistance with the submission, please write to tgrs-editor@ieee.org. Instructions for uploading the electronic version of a manuscript can be found here.

STYLE

GRSL is addressed to readers with a wide variety of interests. The author should refrain from using terminology that may not be familiar to readers and carefully explain terminology that is used. In addition, the author should provide brief introductory remarks and references that will permit the reader to relate the paper to other work in the author’s field of specialty. Clarity of both writing and illustrations is required. An IEEE style guide, "Information for Authors," and other author tools are available at http://www.ieee.org/web/publications/authors/transjnl. Author may be interested in the free online reference validation tool offered by IEEE all perspective authors, and available at http://refassist.ieee.org.

GRSL is published only in English, and the use of correct English is required of all authors. Thus, contributors for whom English is not a native language should have their papers edited for style, form, grammar, and spelling suitable for publication prior to submittal to GRSL. Authors who would like assistance with English grammar and usage prior to submitting their manuscripts for review or during the review process can go to http://www.prof-editing.com/ieee/ to submit a manuscript for copy editing by SPi. SPi copy editors will edit for grammar, usage, organization, and clarity, querying potentially substantive revisions as necessary. Authors can use the service, at their own expense, as often as desired. Cost estimates are available on line, typically $100 for a four-page article. Edited manuscripts will generally be returned to the author within two weeks of submission.

Submission of a manuscript is assurance that it has not been copyrighted, published, or accepted for publication elsewhere; that it is not currently being considered for publication elsewhere; and that it will not be submitted elsewhere while under consideration by GRSL, unless the author states otherwise. IEEE's plagiarism guidelines are available at http://www.ieee.org/web/publications/rights.

REPRINTS, PAGE CHARGES AND COLOR FIGURES

On submission of final paper, the authors are required to fill in the Author Acknowledgment Form. A mandatory Excessive Paper Length charge of $200.00 per page (beginning with page 4 and beyond) is required for papers in excess of three (3) printed pages. The author will be responsible for checking that the length of the submitted paper is compliant with the limit of five (5) pages set for GRSL papers. The author will be requested, conditional upon favorable technical review, to pay an optional sustaining page charge of $110 per printed page to cover the cost of publication of the first three pages and will receive 100 reprints of the paper if this charge is honored. There will also be mandatory charges for color figures. Authors are encouraged to seek institutional support for all page costs. Authors who cannot pay mandatory charges will be required to reduce their manuscripts to three printed pages or less prior to final acceptance and scheduling for publication. This reduction will occur after technical review of the manuscript. The above policy has no relationship to requests by the Editor to reduce very long manuscripts prior to technical review.

COPYRIGHT

It is the policy of the IEEE to own the copyright to the technical contributions it publishes on behalf of the interests of the IEEE, its authors, and their employers, and to facilitate the appropriate reuse of this material by others. To comply with the U.S. Copyright Law, authors are required to sign an IEEE copyright transfer form before publication.

GRSL has moved to an all-electronic copyright system. You will be automatically redirected to the IEEE copyright database when you complete your submission. Please submit the form at this time. If you cannot complete the form for any reason, the electronic form will become available again in the corresponding author’s Manuscript Central author center after the paper has been accepted. It should be completed by clicking the “Transfer Copyright" button next to the title of the accepted paper. It returns to the authors and their employers full rights to reuse their material for their own purposes.
